On the Specifics of the Transformation Process of Chinese Civilisation

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of modernization in its connection with the process of Chinese civilization's self-transformation. On the one hand, modernization is a necessity, on the other hand, it threatens the loss of cultural and civilizational identity. The only real way to avoid such a prospect is to change without changing, that is to protect the very core of civilization from technological innovations and total Westernization. Such a task requires rethinking of the concept of «modernization» in its connection with a new understanding of historical priorities. Our conclusion reads as follows: China creates a new civilizational synthesis abandoning the orthodox opposition to both capitalism and socialism.
