Anthropology of Nature: Hegel and the Anthropological Foundation of Philosophy of Nature
Abstract
This paper aims to provide a new reading of Hegel's philosophy of nature by demonstrating its rootedness in his anthropology. This kind of anthropological analysis makes it possible to question one of the main traditional criticisms of Hegel's philosophy of nature, namely, that Hegel strips nature of all value and endorses its exploitation by man, as well as to reconstruct Hegel's own criticism of any abusive approach to nature. Hegel's politics of nature coincides with his anthropological politics: for Hegel the attitude towards nature is essentially the attitude of the man towards his own soul.
