Expedient Truth in Dharmakirti's «Commentary»
Abstract
The article considers seeming contradictions in Dharmakirti's Pramanavartti-kakarika through the concept of the «ascending scale of analysis» proposed by G.B.J. Dreyfus in his «Recognizing Reality» and traces this method down to the «expedient truth» teaching as it is expressed in the Lotus Sutra of True Teaching. Refection of expedient truth in modern Buddhist education is also considered here.
