Abstract

The article examines the life path and principal areas of philosophical research of A.N. Chumakov, a prominent Russian scholar of global studies. The authors reveal lesser-known biographical episodes, his philosophical formation under I.T. Frolov’s influence, and his research, teaching, and organizational work. Particular attention is paid to Chumakov’s general theory of globalization, systematically presented in the trilogy Globalization: The Contours of the Integral World, Metaphysics of Globalization: The Cultural-Civilizational Context, and The Global World: A Clash of Interests. The first book interprets globalization as an objective naturalhistorical process of forming an integral world. The second explains the interdependence of culture, civilization, and globalization. The third analyzes the structure of the global world, conflicts of interests, problems of governance, and possible directions for humanity’s further development. A comparison of the three monographs reveals the continuity of the author’s conception: from the genesis of global processes to the cultural-civilizational structure of the world community and then to contradictions and forms of regulation under universal interdependence. The article discusses the concepts of the triosphere and the cultural-civilizational system, as well as historicism, systemic analysis, and terminological precision. The authors draw attention to Chumakov’s contributions to the vocabulary of global studies, encyclopedic publications, and international scholarly exchange. The Path to Philosophy: Works of Different Years reflects the development of his thought and the emergence of new problems in global studies, social philosophy, and the philosophy of culture. The article concludes that Chumakov’s scholarly legacy forms a developing system of ideas directed toward an integral understanding of the modern world and coordination of national, cultural-civilizational, and humanity-wide interests.
