In The Red Wheel A. Solzhenitsyn describes the historical catastrophe of Russia in the 20th century, but in spite of tragic events and uncompromising description, the book ends with a light of hope. This article attempts to show the theological and anthropological foundations of this hope, concerned with the «ontological vertical line», which together with the historical horizontal line forms a kind of coordinate system in The Red Wheel. The first chapter «The sacrifice as a way of theosis» tells about the central problem of the orthodox theology - the problem of the theosis, of the deification of man, posed in text by the images of general Samsonov and Nicholas II, about the connection of theosis with the kenosis and with the resolution to sacrifice. The chapter «Anthropology in the light of the Christmas» speaks about the anthropological part of this hope: about the theme of the birth of a new person, of live personality, on the background of anthropological catastrophe of depersonalization during the revolution, of the birth of new solidarity of such people.
